Joint Tenancy

A way for two or more people to own property. If one the joint owners dies, all of his/her interest in the property is transferred immediately, by operation of law, to the other surviving owner(s). On the other hand, a tenancy‐in‐common does not automatically transfer the deceased interest to the other tenants.

If the joint tenancy exists between a husband and wife, the joint tenancy may be called a tenancy by the entirety.
